# Knowledge Adventure Last updated: January 17, 2026 ## Overview Knowledge Adventure is an American educational software publisher founded in 1991, best known for the JumpStart series of educational games for children. The company was acquired by Vivendi Universal Games (parent of Sierra Entertainment) in 2004, bringing it under the same corporate umbrella as Sierra's properties. ## Sierra Connection After Vivendi's acquisition, Knowledge Adventure continued development of the Dr. Brain educational game series, which was originally created by Sierra On-Line. The Dr. Brain franchise, designed by the [[Designers/Corey Cole\|Coles]], featured puzzle games that challenged players with logic, science, and problem-solving activities. Knowledge Adventure released several Dr. Brain titles in the late 1990s and 2000s, continuing the legacy of Sierra's educational gaming division. ## Games Published (Sierra Archive) | Year | Game | Series | |------|------|--------| | 1998 | [[1998 - Dr. Brain Thinking Games - IQ Adventure\|Dr. Brain Thinking Games: IQ Adventure]] | Dr. Brain | | 1998 | [[1998 - Dr. Brain Thinking Games - Puzzle Madness\|Dr. Brain Thinking Games: Puzzle Madness]] | Dr. Brain | | 1999 | [[1999 - Dr. Brain - Action Reaction\|Dr. Brain: Action Reaction]] | Dr. Brain | | 2011 | [[2011 - JumpStart Advanced 3rd-5th Grade - Adventures of Dr. Brain\|JumpStart Advanced: Adventures of Dr. Brain]] | Dr. Brain | ## Related - **Original Series Creator:** [[Publishers/Sierra On-Line\|Sierra On-Line]] - **Parent Company:** Vivendi Universal Games ## References [^ref-1]: [Wikipedia - JumpStart Games](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JumpStart_Games) - Company history and acquisition [^ref-2]: [MobyGames - JumpStart Games, Inc.](https://www.mobygames.com/company/521/jumpstart-games-inc/) - Founding and brands [^ref-3]: [MobyGames - JumpStart Games history](https://www.mobygames.com/company/521/jumpstart-games-inc/history/) - Corporate timeline [^ref-4]: [JumpStart Wiki - JumpStart Games, Inc.](https://jstart.fandom.com/wiki/JumpStart_Games,_Inc.) - Fanfare acquisition and history [^ref-5]: [How to Train Your Dragon Wiki - Knowledge Adventure](https://howtotrainyourdragon.fandom.com/wiki/Knowledge_Adventure) - School of Dragons partnership [^ref-6]: [Grouvee - Knowledge Adventure](https://www.grouvee.com/games/company/35413-knowledge-adventure/) - Published games count [^ref-7]: [IGN - Knowledge Adventure Games](https://www.ign.com/games/producer/knowledge-adventure) - Game catalog [^ref-8]: [Wikipedia - Blaster Learning System](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaster_Learning_System) - Math Blaster series [^ref-9]: [Wikipedia - JumpStart](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JumpStart) - Franchise history [^ref-10]: [Codex Gamicus - Knowledge Adventure](https://gamicus.fandom.com/wiki/Knowledge_Adventure) - Davidson & Associates merger [^ref-11]: [AVID Wiki - Knowledge Adventure](https://www.avid.wiki/Knowledge_Adventure) - Company history [^ref-12]: [Dealroom - Knowledge Adventure](https://app.dealroom.co/companies/knowledge_adventure) - Acquisitions and milestones [^ref-13]: [Game Pressure - Knowledge Adventure](https://www.gamepressure.com/companies/knowledge-adventure/zb35c) - Developer collaborations [^ref-14]: [JumpStart Wiki Forum - Goodbye JumpStart Games](https://jstart.fandom.com/f/p/4400000000000075165) - Company closure 2023 [^ref-15]: [Reddit - r/KnowledgeAdventure](https://www.reddit.com/r/KnowledgeAdventure/hot/) - Community memories
